The Women's Lunch Place was created to provide a safe, comfortable daytime refuge, nutritious food, and basic resources for women and children who are homeless and poor. We offer these services in the spirit of respect and friendship, fostering a community committed to meeting the women's needs as they themselves define them.
We believe that no one should face hunger and homelessness. Everyone deserves the fulfillment of her basic human needs. Poverty and homelessness are not the fault of individuals but rather the results of social crises and injustices.
To survive and leave poverty and homelessness, each woman needs to feel known and loved as an individual and cared about as a member of the community. We seek to keep our services non-institutional and personal, responding to each individual's needs as she herself defines them. We celebrate the many cultures that make up our community, and we strive to develop an organization that reflects the women's diversity.
Our primary goal is to show our guests that they are special. Fresh flowers on the tables, tablecloths, real china and silverware, birthday celebrations, and conversations over lunch are just some of the ways we seek to accomplish that goal. As a volunteer, you will be an integral part of our mission and community. That is why we require an eight hour commitment per month for six months from all volunteers. We welcome and encourage volunteers to spend more than their required time with us if they wish.
