Vision Statement

AFC Mentoring envisions a future when all adopted and foster youth can say, “I will flourish; my community will support me.”

Mission Statement

Adoption & Foster Care Mentoring empowers adopted and foster youth to flourish through committed mentoring relationships.

AFC Mentoring builds relationships between adult volunteers and children between the ages of 7 and 14 who have adoption, foster care, or other out-of-home care experiences. Our goal is to connect youth with mentors who can offer enough emotional and social support to enable the youth to confidently define and achieve success on their own terms.

Volunteer Opportunities

Be a Coach, Be a Leader, Be a Mentor!

AFC Mentoring has a growing waiting list of boys who would like a male mentor in their life. By spending time with a young boy, you can provide him with the opportunity to grow and succeed, but mostly just be a friend. Mentoring with AFC can open the doors to many new opportunities for you and your mentee. AFC has sent matches to Red Sox games, Celtics games, museums, the zoo and many more events!

Mentors go through an information session, six hours of training and an interview before being matched. AFC requires mentors to meet for eight hours per month with their mentees for at least one year. AFC will support a match for as long as they want, even beyond a year.

AFCMentors is our one-on-one mentoring program, which builds healthy, consistent mentoring relationships for youth with experiences around adoption and/or foster care. Mentors and mentees must commit to the program for one year and meet at least 8 hours per month-- a small amount of time compared to the lifetime of memories you will be making!

If you are interested in becoming an AFC Mentor, we invite you to sign up for one of our upcoming information sessions: Please find new dates on our website. All sessions are held at our office, where you will learn more about our program, mentoring, and begin our application process. Please RSVP if you plan on attending and we will reserve you a space at our training! If you would like to make any referrals for potential mentors please feel free to send us their contact information and we will be sure to follow up with them as well!

Requirements: Volunteer mentors must be over 18 and have an interest in working with youth who have personal experiences with adoption, foster care, and/or similar situations. All mentors attend an information session and two AFCMentors trainings. Mentors must pass through a screening process and commit to meeting with your mentee at least eight hours a month.
